Connect-I-Cut-III

1)  X( standing in the picture)   was  born into an  Irish  American family,  after doing odd jobs during the depression,  he joined the  Pacific Art And Title,  where producing title cards for movies, his talent for drawing became evident.   He later joined  the Harman & Ising Studios, where he  was one of the animators, and  later  joined  MGM , where he met Y in 1937, who  was also working there. Y ( sitting in the pic)  was the son of Italian immigrants,  had also won several boxing titles.  He joined the Van  Beuren studios in 1932 as an animator, and later on joined MGM in 1937. In 1940, X &Y  directed Puss Gets the Boot, that was nominated  for  an Oscar  in  the Best  Animated  Short  category.  In 1957, they  founded  their  own animation studio,  named  after their  surnames, and  were  responsible  for  succesful  programs like  Flintstones,  Yogi Bear,  Jetsons.  X&Y's  most  famous  creation however to date continues to be  Z.    Name  X.Y & Z.

X&Y were  William Hanna & Joseph Barbera- Z of  course being Tom & Jerry

2)   This  1960  B&W  comedy  film  directed by  Roger  Corman, was  shot on a shoe  string budget of   30,000$.   Written by  Charles  Griffith,  it  deals with the story of  a  meek  flower shop  assistant, Seymour  Krelboin,  who cultivates  a plant  that  feeds on  human flesh. Released as  a double  feature  with Mario Bava's  cult horror movie Black  Sunday,  this  movie  has achieved cult status in recent times.   It   was  made  into  a  Broadway musical  which  later  was  made  into a  1986  movie of  the  same  name.

The movie  was  THE  LITTLE  SHOP OF HORRORS.

3)  Considered  a landmark  counter culture  movie,  this  featured  2  drug  dealers, who  go on a trip  around the  US. The characters  are  named  Wyatt  and  Billy,  after  the  Western  characters  Wyatt  Earp & Billy the Kid.  Though  its  quite  often  alleged  that  the  characters were  really  named  after  Roger Mc Guinn & David  Crosby of  the The  Byrds.

Again the definitive cult movie  EASY  RIDER.

4)

On July 30,1975  he  disappeared from the  parking lot of   Machus  Red  Fox  Restaurant in Bloomfield,a  suburb  of  Detroit. He had been  due to meet  2  Mafia leaders,  Antony  Giacolone  and  Antony Provenzano. The FBI  investigations  failed  to  crack  the  mystery, and  he  was  declared legally dead in 1982. He  was the person,  responsible for the  rapid rise of  the Teamsters,  which became one of the largest single  trade union in the US.

JIMMY HOFFA

5)

Born in Czech  Republic,  his  parents  died  in the  Nazi  concentration camps, and he  grew up with his uncle.   Vaclav  Havel  was  his  school mate,  and he  is  remembered  for  a series of  Czech comedies  he  did notably  Loves of  a Blonde, The Fireman's Ball,  both of which were nominated for an Oscar in Best Foreign Film category.  After  the  failure of  the Prague  Spring  in 1968,  he  migrated to the US, where he  worked as professor of film  at  Columbia University.  He  shot  into  fame with  a 1975  movie, which though based on a Ken Kesey  novel,  was  also hinted to be against the oppressive  Communist  regime in his own country.  He also made an appearance  as  Ed Norton's  mentor in Keeping the Faith.

MILOS  FORMAN

6)   Between  1977-1984,  this  author  published  a whole  series of  novels  Rage, The Long Walk, The Road Work, Running Man and  Thinner, under  the  pseudonym of  Richard  Bachman.  One  explanation is that the author  did so,  as  publishing  standards during that time, allowed an author to publish only book per  year.  Another  states  that   the author  wanted to test if  he  could  repeat  his own  success again.  The truth was discovered by  a  book store clerk, Steven Brown, who  found  a similar  style of  writing in  Bachman's  novels  and the  author's.  The  author dedicated  his  1989 book, The Dark  Half,  to the "deceased Richard Bachman".  Name the  author.

STEPHEN  KING

7)  This 1946  drama noir  movie  starring  Lana  Turner  and  John  Garfield,  was  based on  a novel by  James Cain.  It  is the  story of a  drifter  Frank  who has an affair  with Cora, and together they plot to murder her much older husband,  Nick.
