Maximus Indicus Quiz-Mixed Bag 10

Another Mixed Bag Quiz for me. And quite a decent response.

1) One theory regarding it's name states that it comes from an alternative Greek name for Hercules, meaning "Son of Hues". The other theory states it comes from an Oscan word meaning "smoke". What am i referring to here?

Udaiyavar called himself as Swami Nambiyathri Tirumalapad, and the title was later shortened to Samuri. Hyder Ali captured this area in 1776 and in 1792 it fell into British hands. The Kappad Beach located close to this city, was witness to a famous historical event. Name the city.
